2024  AWARDS

Purebred Ambassador of the Year - Scott & Megan Baron

It’s with great pleasure that we announce that Scott and Megan Baron of Hidden Lake Stock Farms have been selected as the 2024 Ambassador Award from the Manitoba Charolais Association. This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding contributions and dedication of Hidden Lake Stock farms to the Charolais breed and agricultural community.

Scott and Megan, along with their kids Paisley and Thomas own and operate Hidden Lake Stock Farms at Carberry, Manitoba. They run about 40 purebred Charolais alongside Scott’s Parents Tom and Lynne Baron who run about 150 head of mainly red and black angus, commercial cattle. Scott continues to work off farm full-time managing a local potato farm, while Megan works in the Agriculture Seed Industry full time.

Scott has been involved with showing Charolais since the early 2000’s after attending the World Charolais Congress in 2006 where he worked for HEJ Charolais of Innisfail Alta. He worked for many years with

Bert and Judy McDonald and the JMB Crew. When they dispersed in 2011, Scott, Paul and Bryce started the Fun Bus Syndicate and bought a Charolais heifer calf JMB Ms Dateline114Y. They spent many years showing offspring off that cow, and still have a descendant of that cow in their herd today.

Megan grew up on a mixed farming operation and was brought up with Angus cattle. She was involved with the Junior Angus program growing up and later attended Lakeland Collage where she was part of the Judging team as well as competed at several major competitions. She spent many years helping show cattle for various farming operations across western Canada.

Shortly after Paisley was born in 2016, Hidden Lake Stock Farm was formed. Paisley was the lucky recipient of the

CCYA donation heifer, Steppler Miss CCYA 2018 41E, since named ‘My Moo” from Stepper Farms. At the 2017

Charolais National Show held at Manitoba Ag Ex. The following year Scott and Megan purchased their first registered

Charolais cows from Jeff and Jackie Cavers of C2 Charolais. Over the years Scott and Megan have continued to

purchase cows from C2 Charolais, JMB Charolais, DRD Charolais, Steppler Farms, Sunshine Oak Charolais, and few other operations building up their herd. While they continue to show, under the Hidden Lake Stock Farms banner, they have been successfully campaigning their top genetics at various summer shows, Ag Ex and Agribition. Since Paisley turned 6 in 2022, they have been attending Junior Shows including CCYA and Round Up. Paisley has been very successful in showing many offspring off her “My Moo” cow.

Because of their deep history and passion for showing, Scott and Megan have been giving back and helping to mentor the next generation of cattle men and women about the beef industry and the show ring. They participate on numerous boards and committees geared towards the youth including, Manitoba Youth Beef Round Up, Manitoba Charolais Association, Carberry Ag Society, and the Carberry 4-H Beef Club. In 2022 Scott and Megan joined the Prairie Distinction Bull sale keeping the top 4 bulls every year to offer for sale. They also sell a select junior prospect show heifer every year at various consignment sales. Their breeding program continues to build cattle that work for the commercial producers. Last year was a turning point for Hidden Lake Stock farms, as they began an embryo transfer program with the support of both their parents and their commercial herds. They worked to source embryos from some of the breeds most elite females. As well as flushing a female going back to the first ‘My

Moo’ cow. Scott and Megan would like to thank Bert McDonald for the nomination and are honored to be selected by their peers for the Manitoba Charolais Association 2024 Ambassador Award. Recognizing them for their invaluable contributions to the Manitoba Charolais Association and agricultural industry.
